Watching CZ talk about his early experience with Bitcoin on the All In podcast, there’s an interesting detail that really shows the cautious side of his personality.
In July 2013, he first heard about Bitcoin at a poker table from Cao Darong, then read the Bitcoin whitepaper. It took him a full six months before he finally decided to enter the market at the end of 2013.
During those six months, BTC’s price skyrocketed from $70 mid-year to $1,000 by year-end—a more than 15x increase. CZ even thought he was too late at the time, saying to himself, ‘I wish I had gotten in earlier.’ But the truth is, no matter when you enter the Bitcoin space, you’ll always feel like you’re late. Because every industry insider you talk to seems to have bought in earlier than you. Later, CZ sold his apartment in Shanghai for $900,000 and bought Bitcoin all the way down from $800 to $600-$400, averaging around $600 per coin, acquiring 1,500 BTC in total.
Interestingly, Michael Saylor also had doubts about Bitcoin in the early days. He said he spent 1,000 hours researching before deciding to go all-in on Bitcoin.
Those who say ‘it’s too late now’ were saying it at $10,000, at $100,000, and will still say it when it drops to $60,000.
If you believe Bitcoin will outlive every one of us, you won’t feel like it’s ever too late.
