[Animoca Brands Co-Founder Yat Siu: NFTs Are Not Dead, Wealthy Collectors Still Supporting the Market]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, stated that although the NFT market has significantly cooled down compared to its peak in 2021/2022, it is not 'dead.' The current market is primarily driven by wealthy digital art collectors. He pointed out that monthly NFT transaction volumes have dropped from over $1 billion at their peak to around $300 million, but this is still a development from zero compared to five years ago.
Yat Siu emphasized that many high-net-worth buyers are 'holding rather than flipping,' creating a community culture similar to collectors of Picasso artworks, luxury cars, or high-end watches. Although his own NFT portfolio has declined by about 80%, he has never intended to trade in the short term and views it as a long-term asset.
Regarding the cancellation of the French flagship event NFT Paris, Yat Siu believes this is not an issue with the NFT industry itself but rather a result of France and Europe shifting towards a more anti-crypto regulatory stance. Additionally, recent security incidents targeting crypto practitioners and investors have weakened market confidence and willingness to participate in events.
