The development of the AI industry right now is just like the early days of the crypto industry—there’s something new and exciting coming out every day. If you don’t keep up and learn, you might feel like you’re being left behind, just like with crypto back then.
Here’s a quick recap of what happened in AI over the past week. Take a look:
December 16
• OpenAI released GPT Image 1.5, which has 4x faster image generation, supports reliable multi-step editing, and improves text rendering capabilities.
• Google upgraded its Deep Research Agent, enabling it to perform more complex multi-step information retrieval and report generation tasks using Gemini 3 Pro.
December 17
• Google officially launched Gemini 3 Flash, replacing the previous 2.5 version as the default model for its apps and search AI. It focuses on low cost ($0.50 per million tokens) and high speed.
• OpenAI updated ChatGPT’s built-in image editing tool, improving the precision of local redrawing and instruction adherence.
December 18
• OpenAI released GPT-5.2-Codex, a model designed specifically for **Agentic Coding**. It introduces context compression technology and shows significant improvements in large-scale code refactoring and cybersecurity vulnerability fixes.
• Anthropic open-sourced the “Agent Skills” standard and released a related SDK. This move aims to establish a universal standard, allowing skills developed by developers to be easily ported across platforms like Claude, Microsoft, Notion, and Atlassian.
December 19
• AI safety and governance took center stage: OpenAI deployed tools to identify and restrict minors from accessing inappropriate content based on user behavior signals. Anthropic also announced similar AI prediction and protection mechanisms for underage users.
December 20
• OpenAI introduced “Continuity Layers,” a technology designed to enable AI agents to retain strategic intent and historical records when executing long-term, enterprise-level tasks.
