It's the weekend, and as usual, AI sent me last week's crypto weekly report. When I saw this news, I almost spilled my coffee—Vanguard has added SEI to its $11 trillion ETF. As we all know, Vanguard isn’t your average asset management company. Its style is “extremely conservative + extremely long-term.” It’s not one of those hedge funds chasing crypto trends or hot topics; it’s the “big steward” of Americans’ pensions, 401(k)s, and retirement accounts. The money it manages is more than the GDP of most countries—$11 trillion is like fitting the entire German economy into one fund, and then some. Now that it’s included SEI in its ETF, it fully demonstrates that SEI is no longer seen as a “speculative crypto asset” but rather as a “configurable infrastructure-type alternative asset.” Vanguard isn’t betting that SEI’s price will increase tenfold; instead, it’s clearly signaling that “the SEI chain can run real-world applications, handle real-world financial flows, and we’re willing to include it in ordinary people’s long-term investment portfolios.” This is different from when BlackRock or Hamilton Lane put RWA on SEI. The former is about “institutions using SEI for operations,” while the latter is Vanguard telling tens of millions of ordinary people: “SEI is worth holding long-term.” So, many people might ask, why SEI? Why not another L1? I think one thing is clear: SEI has been quietly focusing on compliance, not chasing trends or creating hype, and what it’s doing is particularly “non-crypto.” It doesn’t do memes, airdrops, or liquidity mining. Instead, it enables Robinhood’s 25 million retail investors to stake SEI with one click; it powers Kalshi’s prediction market on its chain, where ordinary people can use USDC to bet on “when the Fed will raise interest rates”; and it collaborates with Chainlink, Monaco, and Carina Finance on cross-chain, compliance, MEV prevention, and high throughput—all things traditional finance cares about: certainty. This might just be the key reason Vanguard chose SEI!
