This is similar to how Web2 brands sign idol celebrities—no matter how big the brand is, they can't avoid sudden scandals. The only solution is to establish mechanisms to cut ties in time. The outrage this time isn’t just because 'donation fraud' is an extremely sensitive issue. I feel like more people are questioning whether the mainstream industry truly recognizes and accepts values like 'no bottom-line account building,' 'bad publicity is still publicity,' 'retail investors have a 7-second memory,' and 'as long as you have traffic, you're king.' Does being popular really mean you’ll be accepted by the mainstream? Does it mean heroes can come from anywhere? Of course, I don’t think @binancezh intended it this way. Their selection process probably just focused on raw traffic data. But given Binance’s position in the industry, every move they make has a huge impact on the Chinese crypto community. Otherwise, their awards wouldn’t spark so much controversy every time. In the future, Binance could consider taking the lead in establishing a healthy industry mechanism, somewhat like how Web2 guides idol celebrities toward mainstream societal values. There’s already a lot of discussion in the Chinese crypto media about KOLs repeatedly exploiting people, having no moral bottom line, yet still thriving. Most people feel helpless about it. Maybe our industry doesn’t yet have detailed laws and regulations to restrict this, but if unethical behavior by a KOL is proven, the big players in the industry could voluntarily impose some restrictions—at least not add fuel to the fire. This is also part of building. It gives newcomers in the crypto space the right direction to strive toward, instead of learning how to improve their simulators, Photoshop skills, or how to script drama and stir up traffic.
