[Chainalysis Responds to Binance's Crime Analysis Report, Does Not Cover All Categories of Illegal Activities]
December 1 news: Chainalysis publicly responded to Binance's crime analysis report that used its data. In November, Binance claimed that, based on Chainalysis data, only 0.018% to 0.023% of the trading volume on major exchanges was directly linked to illegal wallets, and that Binance performed better than the market. However, Chainalysis clarified that the analysis did not cover all categories of illegal activities (such as ransomware and hacking theft) and only calculated 'direct contact,' excluding funds transferred through intermediary personal wallets.
Such 'transfer wallet' strategies are widely used by cryptocurrency criminals to obscure their tracks.
