This analysis on GPU depreciation is super professional. I just checked out the current usage of NVIDIA's A100 chip, which was released in May 2020: wow, the A100 has been out for 5 and a half years, but it's far from being retired. Even in 2025, it’s still one of the most cost-effective, mature, and well-supplied GPUs out there, especially the 80GB version. Major cloud providers like AWS, Azure, GCP, and Alibaba Cloud are still offering A100 instances. A lot of people question whether the depreciation periods tech companies set for GPUs are reasonable—6 years seems unreasonable, 3 years too, and some think it should just be 1-2 years. But at least the A100 serves as a solid example: it’s been 5 and a half years since its release, and it’s still being widely used.
