When BTC topped in 2017, we saw a massive decline in BTC.D. This is not a call for a similar move. More so comparing how that cycle played out and how different it currently is. In 2017/18, BTC topped out and people that missed the rally went on to max bid any alt out there for about 2 weeks. This was an insane period where every alt was up 20-30% every day for about 2 weeks in a row. Obviously we'll never get an "altseason" like back in the day again. Back in 2017/18 there were maybe 100-200 alts worth trading and those ended up getting all the upside back then. Nowadays, people looking to buy alts have to choose between tens of thousands of coins. Therefore making it impossible for a market wide alt season where everything goes up for long periods of time. Anyways back to the current situation, It's pretty interesting seeing BTC Dominance decline as much as it did today, during such a large sell off. Most of it is primarily due to ETH being relatively strong. It could be that we see this continue for some time after this big BTC drawdown. But for alts to continue their relative strength, you don't want the floor to fall through yet again. I suspect what we see now is some cautious allocating into alts by market participants hoping BTC is at or near a local bottom. They won't stick around for long if BTC were to lose the 94K region.(Daan Crypto Trades)
