Recently, the altcoins that have skyrocketed are basically new coins or relatively new coins.
We’re not counting delisted coins here—those pumps are just the last chance for the shady whales to dump their bags.
Why don’t the old altcoins pump?
There are two main reasons:
First, the project teams have already cashed out by selling their tokens and basically abandoned the projects. Who knows where they are now—probably chilling on a yacht with models.
Second, the tokens are already widely distributed, so it’s impossible to maintain high control. Pumping the price would just be making money for others.
Why do new coins pump?
For new or relatively new coins, the project teams can usually maintain high control. After spending money to get listed on exchanges, they need to pump the price to cash out and make a profit. Otherwise, what’s the point of launching the token in the first place?
Of course, there are some shady project teams that just rug-pull right after listing. This is more common at the end of a bull market or during a bear market. But during a bull market, the chances of new coins getting washed out and then pumped are still pretty high.
