Our relationship with Japan is strong and steady though we need to balance trade between our two countries. Japan exports to Kenya goods worth 1 billion (KSh130 billion), while we only export a total of 70 million (KSh9 billion) due to tariffs and non-tariff barriers. Kenya is therefore seeking opportunities to access the Japanese market, including for agricultural products such as avocados, flowers and tea. To open the route to Japan for more Kenyan goods and products, Kenya is seeking talks between Kenyan and Japanese officials in an effort to unlock the latent potential between our two nations. Met Japan External Trade Organisation Chairman and CEO Norihiko Ishiguro, head of a government agency that promotes trade and investment between Japan and other countries.(William Samoei Ruto, PhD)
