We've been debating solar energy a bit on the podcast, and @friedberg, @pdeutch, and I have discussed Texas a lot — where I live! On a recent episode, we stated 5% solar in Texas, which was old information -- ERCOT releases this data on their website often. Texas is hitting triple that number in the sunny months (15%) and 50% more than that number in our coldest month (January 8%+). In June, solar and wind were 39% of our usage. Solar, wind and nuclear are the solutions; fossil fuels are a dirty, short-term bridge. We can use it if we must, but let's keep it a buck: it's messy and expensive. That is why China has gone "all in" on solar, wind and nuclear. They are cutthroat and they are NOT captured by the fossil fuel industry like we are here in the USA.(@jason)
