According to a statement on OpenAI's official website, The New York Times has requested the court to compel OpenAI to "indefinitely" retain all ChatGPT user chat records and API customer content in its lawsuit. Regarding this, CEO Sam Altman stated that this move "seriously deviates from the user privacy commitment" and emphasized that the company has filed an appeal and will "firmly oppose any request that harms user privacy". OpenAI stated that the affected users are non enterprise ChatGPT and API users who have not signed the "zero data retention" agreement. The data will be encrypted and stored for legal team access only.
