[US Media: Iran Provides Targeting and Intelligence Support to Houthis, Assisting Attacks on Saudi Arabia]
According to a report by *The Wall Street Journal* on October 17, cited by Jinse Finance, sources familiar with intelligence from Saudi Arabia and the anti-Houthi coalition in Yemen revealed that Iranian support has enabled the Houthi forces to launch their most lethal and technologically advanced attacks to date against Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen. This includes assistance in targeting for drone and missile strikes, as well as providing training, intelligence, and tactical guidance.
Iran's aid has bolstered the Houthis' offensive, allowing them to rapidly expand their control in Yemen. The group currently controls the Yemeni coastline on one side of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical chokepoint for Saudi oil exports. Meanwhile, the Houthis have also attacked Saudi oil tankers, energy facilities, and airports, including an attack on Riyadh last weekend that resulted in at least 13 deaths.
The support provided by Iran highlights its ability to leverage Middle Eastern militia groups like the Houthis to increase regional pressure. This capability poses challenges to efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump and his Gulf allies to end the conflict with Iran on terms favorable to themselves.
Iran has aligned itself with the Houthis, secretly transporting weapons via traditional dhows and dispatching members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah from Lebanon to Yemen. These operatives train the Houthis to assemble missiles and drones independently and enhance their effectiveness in using these weapons.
