**[Federal Reserve's October Rate Hike Expectations Weaken, Dollar May See Worst Weekly Performance in Six Weeks]**
Jin10 Data, October 17 — Federal Reserve Chair Waller's remarks failed to boost the dollar, which is set to end its four-week winning streak. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index fell as much as 0.4% on Friday, poised to record its worst weekly performance since September 4. The dollar weakened against most major currencies, while the euro rose and is likely to end its five-week losing streak.
On Friday morning, during the International Monetary Fund's annual meeting in Bangkok, Waller refrained from commenting on monetary policy or the U.S. economy, prompting investors to reduce bets on a rate hike by the Federal Reserve later this month. This was Waller's last chance to hint at the policy stance before the Federal Reserve enters its silent period ahead of the October policy meeting on Saturday.
Noah Buffam, a strategist at CIBC Capital Markets, stated: "Waller did not provide any policy guidance. While this was expected at this stage, the market interpreted it as a signal that the Federal Reserve might not raise rates at its October meeting."
