[Gate Executive Director Edwin Cheung: Cross-border payments are expected to become a key driver of growth in the next phase of the crypto industry] Odaily Planet Daily News – According to a recent report by AlphaWire, Gate Executive Director Edwin Cheung stated during an interview at TOKEN2049 Singapore that payment services will become a major growth focus for Gate in the near future, catering to individual and corporate users with daily fund transfer needs, rather than solely focusing on cryptocurrency trading. On October 7, Gate officially launched Gate Money, allowing users to open global electronic bank accounts under their own names via the Gate App. As services gradually roll out, users will be able to receive payments in over 60 local currencies, further bridging digital assets with everyday financial scenarios. Edwin Cheung highlighted that stablecoins can reduce the number of intermediary banks involved in cross-border transfers and enhance the transparency of fund flows. In the future, stablecoins are expected to coexist with traditional bank transfers, instant payments, and QR code payments over the long term. As related services develop in markets across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, stablecoins will play a greater role in cross-currency payment scenarios. Gate Money integrates functionalities for fiat currencies, digital assets, stocks, ETFs, and gold, aiming to provide users with more convenient, all-in-one financial services. Regarding institutional business and security infrastructure, Edwin Cheung noted that institutional investors remain highly concerned about liquidity and counterparty risks. Gate addresses these concerns through its OES (Over-the-Counter Settlement) solution, enabling institutional clients to keep their assets with third-party custodians while still accessing Gate's liquidity and various trading services. Additionally, reserve proof enhances asset transparency. He emphasized that whether for institutional or payment services, user trust is paramount. Gate's compliance credentials, robust risk control systems, and close collaboration with market regulators are critical factors driving sustainable business growth.
