IMF Warning: U.S. Economic Growth Insufficient to Quickly Address Debt and Deficit Issues, Additional Measures Needed

Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on October 14, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated that U.S. economic growth is not sufficient to quickly resolve the growing government debt and fiscal deficit issues, and the U.S. needs to take additional measures to improve its fiscal situation. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Wednesday during the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok that the U.S. government is "heavily reliant on strong economic growth," but while growth can help, it is not fast enough to achieve the necessary fiscal adjustments. The organization believes that although higher economic growth rates can help improve debt burden indicators, relying solely on growth may not be enough to offset the pressures from high deficits, high interest expenditures, and the ever-increasing scale of debt.
