[Insider: Microsoft Advances Data Center Expansion, Plans to Double Computing Power]
Golden Finance reported on October 14 that, according to insiders familiar with the plans, by 2032, Microsoft's global data center network capacity will exceed 38 gigawatts (GW), up from the current level of approximately 12 GW. By then, its capacity will surpass the peak electricity demand of New York State. This roadmap includes Microsoft's owned and leased data center facilities but excludes computing power rented from so-called new cloud service providers like CoreWeave Inc. They cautioned that the plans may be subject to adjustments, as data center construction takes years, and changes in customer preferences and the emergence of new technologies could overturn current assumptions.
