[Federal Reserve Governor Cook's Lawyer Condemns Trump's New Round of Investigations]
According to a report by Golden Finance on October 14, as cited by The New York Times, Federal Reserve Governor Cook on Tuesday objected to Trump's latest attempt to remove her from her position as a Fed governor and questioned the objectivity of the White House's investigation into her alleged mortgage fraud.
A letter to the White House revealed that Cook's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, stated that Cook would be unable to attend the hearing scheduled for November 5 because she would be in Europe fulfilling her duties by attending the 'Financial and Monetary Policy Conference.' The hearing would have to be postponed until after the Federal Reserve's policy meeting on December 8-9 at the earliest.
Lowell also questioned the objectivity of the investigation, as the committee responsible for the inquiry is composed entirely of political appointees by Trump, including Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council. Trump has long sought to increase his control over the Federal Reserve to lower borrowing costs.
When asked last Friday about the investigation into Cook, Trump called her 'dishonest' and stated that if the committee found grounds for her removal, he would 'absolutely' fire her.
