By Tuesday night, bitcoin:native was back near $83,000. The US stock market still hasn’t shown a consistent upward trend—Apple and Microsoft performed well, while some chip stocks continued to decline. From today’s developments, oil prices and US Treasury yields both dropped a bit, giving risk markets a breather. However, the market is still worried about whether Wednesday’s CPI will exceed expectations, and overall sentiment isn’t very optimistic. The expectation of increased diesel supply from Russia brought Brent crude oil prices down from above $106 on Monday to around $105. The 10-year US Treasury yield also retreated slightly. Lower oil prices help ease concerns about future inflation, and falling yields can reduce valuation pressure on stocks. However, Brent crude is still above $100, and issues like Saudi Arabia and Hormuz security remain, meaning energy costs for businesses and households are still high. On Wednesday at 8:30 PM Beijing time, the US September CPI will be released. The market expects a year-over-year increase of 3.7% overall and 2.5% for core inflation. Inflation being higher than last month is already priced into market expectations. What will impact short-term market movements is the gap between actual data and expectations, especially whether prices for other goods and services continue to rise. If the data comes in below expectations, especially if core inflation isn’t as high as anticipated, concerns about further rate hikes may ease, making it easier for tech stocks and Bitcoin to continue rebounding. If the data matches expectations, funds will likely keep an eye on oil prices and corporate earnings. But if it’s significantly higher than expected, worries about high interest rates persisting for longer will increase, and today’s rebound could easily reverse.
