[Solana Consensus Upgrade Alpenglow to Launch on Mainnet on October 21, Final Confirmation Time Reduced to Approximately 150ms] Foresight News reports that Solana core development team Anza announced via Twitter that the new Solana consensus protocol, Alpenglow, will go live on Mainnet-beta at around 22:50 on October 21. Developed by Anza over 18 months, Alpenglow will replace the TowerBFT consensus protocol used since Solana's genesis and remove the Proof of History (PoH) mechanism. The transaction final confirmation time will be reduced from several seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds. Voting will move off-chain, freeing up block space for user transactions. The migration will be completed within a single slot. Previously, Alpenglow underwent migration on the testnet and devnet and was tested in simulations involving 1,500 nodes, with a bug bounty exceeding 25,000 SOL.
