[Chicago Fed President Goolsbee Warns AI Boom Could Drive Up U.S. Inflation, Potentially Impacting Rate Cut Path]
Chicago Fed President Goolsbee stated that the investment frenzy surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) is causing price pressures to spread from the data center sector to the broader U.S. economy, potentially exacerbating inflation risks. Goolsbee pointed out that the surge in demand for electricity, construction, land, and equipment driven by AI infrastructure development is increasing costs across multiple industries. He warned that if inflationary pressures persist, the Federal Reserve may need to maintain tighter monetary policy for a longer period, or even implement further rate hikes.
"I'm increasingly concerned that this is just traditional demand overheating," Goolsbee said.
