[France Proposes Declaration Requirement for Crypto Assets Over €100,000, with a Maximum Fine of €10,000 for Non-Compliance] Odaily Planet Daily News: The French National Assembly's Finance Committee has passed an amendment proposing that self-custodied crypto assets with a year-end value of €100,000 (approximately $112,000) or more must be declared. Failure to declare could result in a maximum fine of €10,000 (approximately $11,000). This regulation has not yet become law and may still be subject to adjustments. Harry Halpin, CEO of privacy infrastructure company Nym, stated that French tax officials have allegedly sold taxpayer data to criminals, and the new declaration requirement could pose a security risk to asset holders. Rand Hindi, founder of privacy protocol Zama, urged French crypto asset holders to leave France, and for those unable to leave, to hire security for their families. This proposal comes at a time when France has seen multiple incidents of crypto asset-related robberies, kidnappings, and "wrench attacks" in recent years. The committee had also previously passed measures such as treating the exchange of crypto assets for stablecoins as taxable sales and expanding the scope of crypto asset exit taxes. However, the budget revenue section was later rejected by a vote of 31 to 3, and the related amendments will need to be resubmitted. (Decrypt)
