[U.S. Proposes Adjustments to Stablecoin Accounting Rules, Eligible Tokens May Be Classified as Cash Equivalents] Odaily Planet Daily News: Blockchain project Tempo released a report indicating that the U.S. Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is proposing adjustments to stablecoin accounting rules. Eligible tokens may be classified as cash equivalents on corporate balance sheets, potentially reducing accounting barriers for companies adopting stablecoins. Under current accounting practices, stablecoins, even if fully backed by U.S. dollars, may not be included in reported corporate cash reserves, thereby affecting liquidity ratios and loan covenants. The proposed rules would allow companies to use stablecoins for payments and settlements but require direct redemption rights with the issuer. Purchasing USDC through an exchange may not necessarily meet the criteria for classification as a cash equivalent. Coinbase, in its 2025 annual report, plans to classify USDC and other payment stablecoins as cash equivalents, based on its redemption arrangement with Circle. The public comment period for FASB's proposed rules will remain open until November 19, after which the committee will review feedback and determine the final accounting changes and effective date. This proposal comes at a time when the market size of U.S. dollar stablecoins has exceeded $300 billion. (Cointelegraph)
