**[Cloudflare Acquires Deno to Enable Self-Hosted Deployments on the Workers Platform]** According to a report by *Forbes* on October 11, Cloudflare announced the acquisition of Deno, a JavaScript/TypeScript runtime company. Deno's founder Ryan Dahl (the creator of Node.js) and co-founder Bert Belder, along with the entire team, will join Cloudflare. The core asset of this acquisition is the open-source project *celld*—a distributed deployment tool that runs Workers and Durable Objects using a single Rust binary. This tool allows enterprises to run Cloudflare's serverless programming model on their own infrastructure, fundamentally addressing the long-standing "vendor lock-in" criticism of the Workers platform. Cloudflare plans to integrate *celld* into the open-source runtime *workerd* to achieve full self-hosting support. Deno had previously raised $26 million in funding, but the financial terms of this acquisition were not disclosed. Deno Deploy will shut down in six months, and the Deno runtime will receive security updates for one year before development ceases. This marks Cloudflare's second developer tools acquisition in four months, following its purchase of VoidZero, the company behind the Vite build tool, in June of this year.
