[Critical Vulnerability in XRP Ledger Discovered After Over 10 Years, Could Lead to Excessive XRP Issuance, Now Fixed and Upgraded] Regarding the critical vulnerability in the payment engine reported by Veria AI, RippleX Engineering Lead J. Ayo Akinyele stated that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) payment engine had a severe vulnerability existing for over 10 years, which could have resulted in XRP being issued beyond its fixed supply. This vulnerability was discovered through a bug bounty program and had not been exploited. The development team has released the xrpld 3.4.1 patch version and coordinated with validators to complete a network upgrade prior to public disclosure. Akinyele noted that AI is accelerating the speed of vulnerability detection, and XRPL will increase proactive security investments, address technical debt, advance formal verification, and systematically eliminate potential risks in legacy code.
