Lagging Platinum's Hangover May Endure With Gold's Technical Outlook - Platinum vs. Autocorrelation Platinum's reversal to a red annual candle in 2026 from green, which neared $3,000 an ounce in 1Q, may have shifted $2,000 to a key resistance pivot. My graphic featuring the uniquely industrial precious metal on the same scale as gold might augur what matters. Gold hit a resistance wall just above $5,000, akin to platinum near $3,000, and the hangovers could be enduring if history is a guide. The platinum pivot since 2006 of close to $1,350, roughly the five-year moving average, is a good target retracement-support zone. Platinum's 127% gain in 2025, the largest in our database since 1987, stretched the metal to the highest ever vs. its five-year moving average and slightly above 2025's low vs. gold. Around $2,000 appears to be platinum's key resistance threshold, which may be roughly equivalent to $4,700 gold.
