[Ledger Incident Sparks Concerns Over Hardware Wallet Security, OneKey Founder Announces Upgrade to 'Last Centimeter' Protection]
Odaily Planet Daily News – OneKey founder Yishi published a statement noting that the recent asset loss incidents involving Ledger users have raised community concerns about the security of hardware wallets. The risk may not stem from the secure chip itself but rather from the connection between the protected chip and the user-trusted display screen, referred to as the 'last centimeter' stage. Hardware wallet security needs to encompass the entire process of production, transportation, storage, and distribution. Yishi advises users to purchase devices through official channels, conduct packaging inspections, and complete official verification, as sensitive data may be exposed during transmission.
Yishi stated that as of October 10, OneKey has not received any reports of user fund losses related to this incident. To address the risks of supply chain attacks, OneKey plans to implement improvements in several areas, including packaging, mnemonic phrase display paths, motherboard communication, distributor authorization, and user verification information. Among these, OneKey will introduce a backup process that does not require displaying the mnemonic phrase on the device screen and will prioritize strengthening encryption of sensitive communication links within the motherboard to reduce the risk of hardware implant attacks obtaining recovery phrases.
