[EU Tech Chief: EU Already Capable of Resisting 'Rogue AI' Risks]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on October 10, according to Cointelegraph, Henna Virkkunen, the EU official responsible for technology, stated that the EU is currently 'well equipped' to resist risks posed by 'rogue AI' and advanced models. She noted that the EU's *Artificial Intelligence Act* (AI Act), passed two years ago, has established effective safety guardrails. As the world's first comprehensive AI legislation, the Act officially came into effect this August, requiring companies to conduct risk assessments and mitigation efforts before deploying AI systems.
Addressing concerns about the unforeseen consequences that rapid technological iteration might bring, Virkkunen emphasized in an interview with Finnish broadcaster Yle that the loss of human control over AI is considered an extremely serious threat. She believes that with the existing legal framework and a risk-tiered regulatory mechanism, the EU is capable of ensuring that safety risks are properly managed while fostering technological innovation.
