[A-Share New Account Openings in the First Three Quarters Nearly Match Last Year’s Total, with Fewer than 2 Million New Accounts in September] Odaily Planet Daily News: According to data from the Shanghai Stock Exchange, 1.9119 million new A-share accounts were opened in September, including 1.8997 million by individual investors and 12,200 by institutional investors. This marks the first time this year that new individual accounts fell below 2 million, while new institutional accounts remained above 10,000, higher than in January, February, April, and May. From a monthly trend perspective, this year’s new account data has shown a pattern of "high start, decline, rebound, decline, stabilization, and cooling." January recorded a yearly peak of 4.9158 million accounts at the market high, followed by a seasonal drop to 2.523 million in February, a rebound to 4.6014 million in March, and then fluctuations between 2.6 million accounts from April to August, specifically 2.4913 million, 2.7653 million, 2.8646 million, 2.6554 million, and 2.3973 million, respectively. September hit a new monthly low, falling below 2 million accounts for the first time. Despite the record low in September, the total number of new A-share accounts in the first three quarters reached 27.1259 million, nearly matching the full-year total of 27.4369 million in 2025. The drop in new A-share accounts in September may be related to a temporary weakening of the profitability effect in the A-share market. (Securities China)
