NEAR Protocol announced that NEAR accounts now support the post-quantum signature algorithm ML-DSA, with no need to migrate assets. The Near One team is working on NEP-655, which generates implicit accounts using the hash of the account's initial state, avoiding exposure of public keys or public key hashes on-chain. This feature is already live on the testnet and is expected to roll out to the mainnet in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the team is designing a scalable signature mechanism for the NEAR Intents wallet contract to support ML-DSA and hash-based signature schemes. They are also developing a Q-day recovery registration mechanism for blockchains that do not yet support post-quantum keys, allowing users to pre-commit to recoverable keys via rotatable hashes.
