[Starknet Considering Transition to Independent L1, Aiming to Become the First Fully Quantum-Resistant Network by 2027, STRK Up ~20% in 24 Hours] Odaily Planet Daily News: Ethereum scaling network Starknet, built by StarkWare, has announced that it is actively considering transitioning into an independent Layer 1 network (L1) and has set 2027 as the target year to become the first fully quantum-resistant network. On Friday, STRK was trading at approximately $0.073, up about 20% in 24 hours, more than doubling from its April price of around $0.03. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson stated that becoming an L1 would allow Starknet to independently manage security upgrades without waiting for Ethereum to advance related developments. As a Layer 2 network (L2), Starknet currently relies on Ethereum for security guarantees; transitioning to L1 would enable it to independently verify and secure transactions. Eli Ben-Sasson pointed out that quantum computers may eventually be able to break the elliptic curve cryptography used by Bitcoin and Ethereum, and advancements in AI within the field of mathematics pose another risk. Ethereum's roadmap estimates that core quantum-resistant infrastructure will be completed around 2029, while Starknet plans to achieve this by 2027. Currently, no quantum computers are capable of breaking these systems. (Decrypt)
