[Gold Standard Advocate Shelton Appointed as U.S. Treasury Advisor]
Odaily Planet Daily News – The U.S. Department of the Treasury has appointed Judy Shelton as an advisor to Treasury Secretary Scott Basent. Previously, Shelton failed to secure Senate approval for her nomination to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors due to her controversial economic views. The Treasury Department stated that Shelton will provide advice to Basent on monetary policy.
Before joining the Treasury Department, Shelton served as a senior fellow at the Independent Institute, which advocates free-market principles, and previously held a position at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. In 2019, former President Trump nominated Shelton to the Federal Reserve Board, but the nomination faced bipartisan opposition in the Senate, including all Democratic senators and a few Republican senators. The controversy centered on three main issues: her views on the Federal Reserve's independence, her support for the gold standard, and her questioning of whether the U.S. needs a central bank. (CNBC)
