[OpenAI Retracts Three Mathematical Papers Due to Symbol Errors, Terence Tao Shares Call to 'Cease Collaboration with OpenAI'] Reported by Golden Finance, on October 9, it was revealed that OpenAI had published over 700 preprints on GitHub on October 6, describing significant mathematical achievements made by its internal AI models. Less than 24 hours later, the company retracted three of the manuscripts due to errors. OpenAI released 722 preprints, claiming progress on 372 mathematical problems across disciplines such as geometry, computer science, algebra, and others. Hundreds of AI-generated mathematical discoveries were said to have advanced the frontiers of higher mathematics within a single day. However, on October 7, OpenAI announced the retraction of three manuscripts due to a symbol error. Mathematicians have expressed dissatisfaction and even concern over OpenAI's approach thus far. The Human Mathematics Association also criticized this recent release, issuing a statement on October 7: 'Mathematicians did not request this work. Publishing over 700 papers at once is not an academic demonstration but a display of power. We urge mathematicians to cease collaboration with OpenAI and return to a vision of science centered on human understanding.' Fields Medal recipient Terence Tao shared the above statement.
