Looks like the feud between Musk and Sam is still going strong. Today, the Financial Times reported that SoftBank is looking to raise up to $100 billion from the Middle East to invest in AI. The community speculates that most of it might end up going to OpenAI-related projects. Musk publicly clapped back, saying, 'Only fools would give them money.' The reason behind this? SoftBank itself is a shareholder in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and Musk has a long-standing beef with OpenAI’s CEO, Sam. SoftBank recently increased its investment in OpenAI to $64.6 billion, holding about 13% of the shares. But part of that investment wasn’t even SoftBank’s own money—it was funded by issuing high-interest debt. So now they’re turning around and trying to raise another $100 billion. Even a fool would think no one’s going to lend them more money, especially since OpenAI doesn’t seem like it’s going public anytime soon. That means shareholders could end up stuck holding the bag for a while. Musk’s take is pretty straightforward: SoftBank is over-leveraged, loves to sell big dreams, and is heavily tied to OpenAI in the AI space. In this situation, if any backer still throws money at them, he thinks it’s just not worth it.
