[Solana Plans to Reduce Target Block Time from 250ms to 200ms, Increasing Blocks per Second to 5]
According to CoinDesk, Solana plans to reduce its target block time from 250 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds during epoch 1053 on Friday, completing a series of block time reduction upgrades initiated in August. This upgrade will create five block opportunities per second on the network, potentially accelerating transaction updates. At the same time, to maintain roughly the same overall processing capacity, the computational limit per block will be correspondingly reduced. Faster block times help decrease transaction latency and mitigate arbitrage attacks exploiting transaction timing differences. However, it also increases the voting demands on validators, puts pressure on network connectivity, and shortens the effective time window for transactions.
