[Starknet Considering Transition to L1 Network to Address Quantum Threats, Aiming for 2027 Implementation]
StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson published an article discussing the necessity of upgrading Starknet to an L1 network to counter threats in the post-quantum era. He pointed out that the threat of quantum computing might be closer than anticipated, compounded by the rapid development of AI, which could undermine existing security assumptions. Blockchain needs to enter a 'safe haven mode' and quickly achieve future-proofing. Key elements include adopting appropriate cryptographic technologies, ensuring cryptographic flexibility, and becoming an independent L1. As an L2, Starknet relies on Ethereum's security. Ethereum aims to achieve full quantum resistance by the end of 2029, while Bitcoin has yet to make any commitments. If Starknet upgrades to an L1, it could achieve this milestone as early as 2027.
