[Hong Kong SFC: HKEX to Publish Consultation Paper on Extending Spot Market Trading Hours in Q4]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on October 9, Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) CEO Julia Leung Fung-yee stated during a speech at the Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) conference on Friday that measures to reform the market microstructure are being studied. These include extending securities trading hours, with initial implementation planned for the derivatives market. This move aims to help investors respond promptly to the fast-changing global markets spanning different time zones, ensuring Hong Kong maintains its competitive edge. In the long term, the policy of extending trading hours will be complemented by other innovative measures expected to be implemented, such as tokenized currencies and digital Hong Kong dollar settlement arrangements. Together, these measures will provide investors with greater flexibility to adjust positions and manage risks based on the latest market information. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) will publish a consultation paper in the fourth quarter regarding the extension of spot market trading hours, and everyone is encouraged to actively share their opinions at that time.
