**[SpaceX Acquires Low-Band Spectrum, Targets U.S. Wireless Operators]**
According to a report by Golden Finance, on October 9, SpaceX (SPCX.O) announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement to acquire a portfolio of low-band spectrum licenses covering the entire United States. This acquisition will enable SpaceX to directly compete with traditional wireless communication giants across the U.S. While Starlink Mobile's existing global 2 GHz mid-band spectrum provides high bandwidth capacity, the newly acquired spectrum will allow its signals to penetrate obstacles. This move accelerates Elon Musk's ambitious goal of bypassing traditional wireless infrastructure and directly delivering cellular network connectivity to smartphones from Earth's orbit.
The deal involves the acquisition of 100% equity in the nationwide 800 MHz spectrum portfolio held by private equity firm Grain Management, pending regulatory approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Additionally, the FCC this week approved Starlink Mobile's application for its second-generation satellite constellation, granting SpaceX authorization to launch 15,000 satellites globally optimized for the 2 GHz band.
Following the announcement, U.S. telecom company stocks fell in after-hours trading, while SpaceX (SPCX.O) shares rose by over 1.7%.
