[New Round of U.S. Sanctions on Iran] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on October 9 (local time October 8), the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on its website that the United States has imposed a new round of sanctions on Iran. The sanctions target 17 vessels transporting Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and petrochemical products. Officials from the U.S. Treasury also stated that it is estimated that approximately 20 million barrels of Iranian crude oil remain stranded on ships outside the scope of U.S. port blockades on Iran. Some officials noted that due to U.S. blockades and sanctions, Iran has ceased loading and unloading operations for crude oil vessels. Earlier that day, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that productive talks are ongoing with Iran and assured that there would be no attacks on Iran before the U.S. midterm elections on November 3.
