[Coinbase Expands Institutional Services, Betting Banks Are Both Rivals and Major Clients]
According to Bloomberg, U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is expanding its services targeted at traditional financial institutions to capitalize on the growth of institutional crypto adoption. Liz Martin, head of Coinbase Institutional, stated that prime brokerage is one of the company's fastest-growing business segments.
On Thursday, the company announced that it will use Coinbase Prime to custody Circle's USDC stablecoin balances within Samsung Wallet, with USDC becoming the default USD stablecoin for the payment service. The U.S. market is expected to go live by the end of this month. Additionally, on Wednesday, Coinbase announced the completion of its integration with Deribit, aiming to connect liquidity between the U.S. and international crypto derivatives markets.
