[South Korean Deputy Prime Minister Responds to Reconsidering Virtual Asset Taxation in 2027: Careful Policy Evaluation and Broad Consultation]
Odaily Planet Daily News – South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho stated that regarding the plan to implement virtual asset taxation in 2027, various opinions from the National Assembly, as well as feedback from experts, industry professionals, and relevant stakeholders, will be widely collected. South Korean lawmaker Kim Sang-hoon questioned the inadequacy of infrastructure months before the implementation of virtual asset taxation, including insufficient tracking and verification capabilities for transaction records on overseas exchanges, DEX, DeFi, and other platforms. Regarding the expected tax revenue from virtual asset taxation, Choo Kyung-ho acknowledged that there are currently "parts that are difficult to accurately grasp." Since taxation requires obtaining tax declaration data first, the relevant declaration system will be launched next year, after which further tax revenue estimates and careful policy evaluations can be conducted.
