[Ethereum Researcher Calls on Crypto Industry to Prepare for 'Bunker Mode']
According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 8, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake has called on the industry to prepare for 'bunker mode,' suggesting users gradually migrate assets to new addresses. On Wednesday, he posted on X, stating that recent breakthroughs in AI mathematics indicate that 'ECDSA could potentially be cracked before the quantum era, with the worst-case scenario being months rather than years.'
Drake suggested that large and mature asset holders should take the lead in migrating their assets and, after signing transactions, transfer remaining funds to new addresses again—since new addresses hide public keys through hashing, reducing the attack surface that requires knowledge of the public key. He emphasized that migration must be gradual and carefully managed, as 'rushed migration does more harm than good.'
The warning comes in the context of OpenAI's release of hundreds of new mathematical discoveries on Tuesday.
