Ever since I started using the U Card last year, I’ve been feeling more and more of its convenience and charm. This might just be one of the key bridges connecting Web2 and Web3 in the future.
To put it simply, in the past, if I wanted to spend money from trading stocks/crypto, I’d have to sell the crypto/stocks first, then go through OTC to transfer it back to my bank account. Not only was it a hassle, but it was also prone to issues. Plus, with the low interest rates on deposits in mainland China, cash sitting in your account would just lose value over time.
Now, this is a game-changer. Dr. Han @Han_Gate has launched Gate Money, which fills two major gaps in one go:
1. Open overseas bank accounts. Users in eligible regions can open a bank account under their name directly in the app by simply filling out the required information online. They’re planning to expand this to Europe, Australia, and Dubai, supporting over 60 local currencies for receiving payments. The best part? It offers features like Convert and Earn, with interest rates up to 3.6%.
2. Spend with crypto/stocks. With the Gate Card, you can directly spend both fiat and crypto. It supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, and in some regions, even ATM withdrawals and QR code payments. Basically, you can now buy coffee with NVIDIA stock.
Isn’t this what they call “making money work for you, while you spend it too”?
A while back, I said Gate’s pivot to stocks was a smart move. Now it seems they’re aiming even higher—transforming from an exchange into a financial app where you can save, receive, and spend money.
As someone living in Australia, I totally get how annoying it is to deal with overseas transfers and reconciling accounts for ATO tax reporting at the end of the year. The day they launch in Australia, I’ll be the first to try it out and see what it’s like to buy a flat white with NVIDIA stock.
Update your app to v8.39.0, tap on Money on the homepage, and you’re good to go! ~ @Gate_zh
