**[Uranium Finance Hacker Convicted, Faces Up to 20 Years in Prison]**
According to a report by Golden Finance on October 8, Bloomberg reported that cybersecurity consultant Jonathan Spalletta was found guilty by a New York jury. Prosecutors accused him of launching two attacks on Uranium Finance in 2021, siphoning approximately $55 million, leading to the platform's closure.
Spalletta faces up to 20 years in prison for money laundering charges related to the use of crypto mixing services like Tornado Cash. U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff has scheduled the sentencing for February 16 next year. Law enforcement seized over $3 million worth of rare Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards, as well as approximately $31 million in crypto assets from his Maryland residence. He also spent over $600,000 on an ancient Roman coin commemorating Caesar's assassination and purchased a piece of the Wright brothers' airplane, which had been taken to the moon by Armstrong, for $137,000.
Defense attorneys argued that Spalletta merely utilized publicly available functions within smart contracts, rather than forging credentials or deploying malicious code, and therefore his actions did not constitute hacking.
