[Vitalik Buterin: AI May Undermine Cryptography and Put ECDSA at Risk Within Two Years] Odaily Planet Daily reports that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on the X platform, stating that AI's acceleration of mathematical research could pose new security threats to existing cryptographic systems, particularly lattice-based cryptographic schemes, including ML-DSA and Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE). He believes that advancements in AI within the field of mathematics over the next two years could significantly weaken the practical security of lattice cryptography, and ECDSA may face the risk of being compromised sooner than expected. Vitalik pointed out that over the past year, Ethereum's Lean roadmap has been gradually shifting toward pure hash-based cryptographic schemes, avoiding the use of lattice-based signatures and related zero-knowledge proof structures. He recommends prioritizing hash-based cryptography wherever feasible and adopting more conservative security parameters for lattice cryptography. Privacy protocols should strive to avoid directly storing encrypted information on-chain, and multisig wallets should prioritize off-chain signature confirmations. Additionally, Vitalik advises users to store funds in addresses that have not initiated any transactions, where operational convenience allows, to reduce potential risks. However, he does not recommend users to immediately migrate assets on a large scale. He emphasized that migration itself carries risks, noting that his own losses due to migration errors have even exceeded the damages caused by all previous hacking incidents.
