[Tokyo Stock Exchange Index Constituents to Be Adjusted Starting Late October, Number of Constituents to Decrease by About 40%]
According to Xinhua News Agency, the Japan Exchange Group, the parent company of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, announced today that the constituents of the Tokyo Stock Exchange Stock Price Index will be adjusted starting late October, with the number of constituents decreasing by about 40% to 986.
The core of this adjustment lies in changes to the selection criteria for constituents. Previously, nearly all companies listed on the former First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (now the Prime Market) were included in the index. Under the new rules, whether a listed company can be included in the index will depend on indicators such as stock trading activity and free-float market capitalization, rather than primarily on which market the company is listed in.
