[New York Fed: U.S. One-Year Inflation Expectations Rise to 3.9%, Hitting Over Three-Year High] BlockBeats News, October 7 — A survey released by the New York Federal Reserve on Wednesday shows that U.S. consumers' expectations for inflation over the next year rose significantly in September, reaching the highest level in over three years. At the same time, households' views on their current and future financial situations have deteriorated. Respondents expect the inflation rate one year from now to reach 3.9%, up from 3.6% in August, marking the highest level since May 2023. Three-year inflation expectations rose from 3.2% to 3.3%, while five-year inflation expectations remained unchanged at 3%. The New York Fed survey also revealed that households downgraded their assessments of both current and future financial conditions in September and reported increased difficulty in accessing credit. However, concerns about being unable to repay debts on time have eased. The outlook for the labor market showed some improvement. Compared to August, respondents perceived a lower probability of the unemployment rate rising within the next year and expressed reduced concerns about facing involuntary unemployment. Additionally, confidence in finding a new job if they were to lose their current one has increased.
