This year at 2049, the main themes for major CEXs seem to boil down to two things: the integration of AI and the unification of the global financial system.
Even though I didn’t attend in person, it’s clear that these two topics dominated the discussions throughout the conference.
Gate CEO @Han_Gate summed up the main focus today in just one sentence: transitioning from a crypto exchange to a global financial account. To achieve this, the key lies in building out the Gate Money system.
What is Gate Money? It’s about integrating crypto, fiat, stocks, ETFs, gold, bank accounts, and payments into a single account system, creating a seamless flow from holding → trading → receiving → paying → earning along the entire financial chain.
This aligns perfectly with what OKX’s Star @star_okx mentioned yesterday on-site about the fusion of three major systems to achieve inclusive finance.
At the same time, this also means that Gate’s future competitors might not just be Binance and OKX, but could increasingly include players like Revolut, Robinhood, Wise, and even traditional banks. Whoever becomes the primary gateway for users’ money could ultimately emerge as the winner.
I think there are three key areas to watch for the future of CEXs:
① How extensively can they integrate same-name bank accounts and global fiat networks?
② Can stocks and crypto truly achieve frictionless integration into everyday payments?
③ Can compliance in various countries support the current super-account expansion strategy of CEXs?
