[U.S. Department of Justice Cites Bitcoin Fog Case to Oppose Roman Storm's Motion for Acquittal]
Odaily Planet Daily News – The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) cited the appellate ruling in the case of Bitcoin Fog cryptocurrency mixer operator Roman Sterlingov in a document submitted on Monday as supplementary grounds to oppose Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm's motion for acquittal. Prosecutors stated that the ruling supports their argument regarding the appropriateness of the trial venue in the Southern District of New York. They claimed that Shakeeb Ahmed had used Tornado Cash from a Manhattan apartment, and the related activities are sufficient to establish the trial venue for Roman Storm on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and unlicensed money transmission. Judge Katherine Polk Failla heard arguments on Roman Storm's motion for acquittal in April 2026 but has not yet issued a ruling. A jury found him guilty of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmission business in August 2025 but failed to reach a consensus on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and sanctions violations. The retrial for these charges is tentatively scheduled for April 26, 2027. (Cointelegraph)
