[Claude Addresses Google Workspace's Shortcomings: Docs, Sheets, and Slides Can Finally Be Edited Directly] Beating AI News reports that Anthropic has integrated Claude directly into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The new Claude for Google Workspace is now open for public testing across all paid plans. Once installed, Claude will appear on the right side of the document, allowing it to read the current file and selected content, and make direct edits within the original file. All three applications support direct interaction. In Docs, Claude can rewrite and reorganize documents; in Sheets, it can write formulas, create pivot tables and native charts, and even clean data using Python before writing it back into the spreadsheet; in Slides, it can generate new pages based on existing templates and check for issues like overlapping elements or text overflow. By default, user confirmation is required before each modification, but there is also an option for continuous execution. Anthropic has also launched new connectors for Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Users can now create or edit Google files directly from within Claude's chat interface by simply pasting the file link. Previously, Claude's integration with Google Workspace was primarily focused on searching Gmail, Calendar, and Drive content. This update marks a significant expansion from "reading data" to "directly editing files." There are still some limitations. The Workspace sidebar can only operate on the currently open file by default and cannot handle Docs comments or existing suggestions. Additionally, tasks in progress will stop if the sidebar is closed. The entire feature is still in Beta. [Original Article Link]
